SALEM — The Jewish Journal Massachusetts has unveiled a new website, powered by its partner, the Jewish Daily Forward in New York. The state-ofthe-art website can be accessed by the URL or

Users will find the site clear and easy to use. Breaking local, national and international news rotates in the upper left hand corner. The weekly Torah portion, candle lighting and Havdalah times are listed in the lower right hand corner. The site contains entries from local bloggers Charles A. Radin, Rabbi Baruch HaLevi, Stacey Marcus and Herb Belkin. (Get a taste of their styles by reading some of their postings on page 7 of this paper.) The new website also features some of the Forward’s best blogs, such as "The Arty Semite" and the "Jew and the Carrot."

There are videos and podcasts, including a Yiddish radio hour. Via the site, readers can instantly respond to stories or postings, or share them with cohorts using social media tools, such as Facebook and Twitter. Organizations are encouraged to post their events on the community calendar.

"We are providing the framework for a community conversation. We hope that readers will go to the site daily to weigh in on the issues that are dear to their hearts," said Barbara Schneider, publisher of the Jewish Journal.

A new initiative complementing the website is an e-newsletter, sent out daily by the Journal and the Forward.

"This contains the most thought-provoking Jewish stories of the day, and we encourage readers to sign up for it," said Journal President Lisa Kosan.

To receive the free e-newsletter, go to boston.forward/newsletter/signup.

Tweaks are still being made to the new website. Journal archives, as well as other features, will be added soon. Please log on and check it out.
