Mechelen, a charming medieval town, offers travelers a variety of interesting attractions. A boat ride along the city’s waterways gives visitors a glimpse of the botanical gardens, fish market and historic waterside buildings. Check out St. Rumbold’s Tower, a UNESCO world heritage site offering a panoramic view of the city.

Mechelen is home to Het Anker Brewery, one of Belgium’s oldest breweries, founded in 1369 and home of the well-known Golden Charles beer. The Palace of Margaret of Austria (now a court of law), has magnificent Renaissance frontage and charming gardens. One of the largest collections of toys in Europe can be found at the Mechelen Toy Museum. Also inspiring is the Schepenheuis Museum, with its fine collection including works by Mechelen painter and sculptor, Rik Wouters.
