A Jewish heritage journey presented by the nonprofit Friends of the March of the Living will take place from April 23 to May 7, 2014. Relatives of Holocaust survivors, or those interested in Holocaust history, are especially invited to participate.

In Eastern Europe, the group will visit sites of Nazi death camps and observe Holocaust Memorial Day (Yom HaShoah). In Israel, they will celebrate the modern state’s 66th birthday (Yom Ha-Atzma’ut).

The Friends of the MOTL trip coincides with the annual international program, March of the Living, which is expected to draw thousands from across the globe. On Holocaust Memorial Day, participants will march about two miles from Auschwitz to Birkenau to commemorate the death march imposed by the Nazis.

Mel Mann of Miami, the son of Lithuanian survivors who has led 15 previous MOTL trips, is an organizer. Cantor Alberto Mizrahi of Chicago, himself a son of a Holocaust survivor from Greece, will accompany the group.

Private excursions may be arranged for participants who wish to explore the shtetls where their ancestors lived in Poland or Lithuania.

Reservations are needed immediately. For those who cannot travel for the full two weeks, the Israel portion of the itinerary is optional. Each participant must arrange their his or her own airfare.
